Silence. The silence was the first thing she noticed. Next, of course, was the blood. Her skin was dyed red with it. She used a handful of snow to rub it off and watched with a mixture of horror and fascination as bright red (like a cherry Popsicle) clumps fell, staining the beautiful snow that was no longer beautiful.
